Program Description

This educational program addresses the impact of traditional and impermeable concrete both inside and outside the building envelope. It explores methods to improve durability and long-term sustainability across concrete applications.

The course also highlights the concrete industry’s ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint while providing practical solutions for moisture-related challenges, including flooring failures, damp-proofing, waterproofing, and permanent concrete repair techniques.


Learning Objectives

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how the concrete industry is working to lower its carbon footprint

  • Identify solutions for moisture-related flooring and roofing issues

  • Apply strategies that improve construction schedules while reducing project costs

  • Recognize materials and techniques used for permanent concrete repairs


Speaker

Scott Bergsbaken has been a driving force in improving concrete durability and performance by controlling moisture within concrete systems. He has successfully introduced emerging technologies and helped bring them into acceptance by the AEC community throughout North America.

Scott brings over 30 years of experience in commercial construction and infrastructure projects related to concrete performance. He is a long-time active member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and the Strategic Development Council of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), having served on local and regional boards for both organizations.

Scott has spoken at numerous Regional CSI Conferences, USGBC Regional Conventions, AIA Chapters, and for many of the world’s largest architectural firms.
